US embassy cable - 05ANKARA2889

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

We delivered reftel demarche to MFA International Political
Organizations Department Head Levent Sahinkaya and,
separately, to Capt. Ergun Kocabicak in the Space Branch of
the Turkish Air Force. Sahinkaya stated that space was an
important issue and that Turkey wanted to contribute to the
discussion about space. Sahinkaya told us that he works on
space issues with colleagues in the Turkish General Staff
(TGS) and the General Directorate for Technical and
Scientific Research Institute (TUBITAK) and will seek
opinions from these two entities in developing Turkey's
position for the June 13 Vienna meeting. Sahinkaya said that
Turkey is planning to create an interagency committee to deal
with space issues.
