UNCLAS NEW DELHI 003607 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREL, MCAP, MOPS, IN, External Political Relations SUBJECT: INDIA COMPLETES MEDIUM-RANGE, SURFACE-TO-SURFACE MISSILE TEST REF: NEW DELHI 3532 1. MEA Deputy Secretary (Disarmament and International Security Affairs) Naveen Srivastava confirmed to PolMilOff press reports that India completed its test of the Prithvi medium-range, surface-to-surface missile on May 12. Srivastava notified PolCouns of the test on May 11 (Reftel). 2. Citing defense sources, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that India fired the Prithvi from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur-on-sea in the state of Orissa at 13:04 on May 12. The indigenously-developed missile has a declared range of 150-250 km. BLAKE
