UNCLAS PANAMA 000969 SIPDIS SENSITIVE DEPARTMENT FOR WHA/CEN E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PGOV, PREL, PM, POLITICS & FOREIGN POLICY SUBJECT: PANAMA TO CONSIDER SUPPORT FOR U.S. CANDIDATE FOR INTER-AMERICAN COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS REF: STATE 75344 (SBU) PolOff demarched MFA Deputy Director of International Organizations and Commissions Nubia Lezcano on April 29, stressing the qualifications of U.S. candidate for Inter-American Commission on Human Rights Paolo G. Carozza. PolOff delivered talking points and c.v. Lezcano said she would inform PolOff when GOP had made a decision on support for Carozza. Lezcano said the decision would be made by Foreign Minister Samuel Lewis Navarro and Director of International Organizations and Commissions Javier Bonagas. Embassy will follow-up with MFA and report any further developments to Department. MCMULLEN
