UNCLAS OTTAWA 001205 SIPDIS DEPT FOR PRM/ANE (ROBERT WARD) E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREF, KPAL, PREL, CA, EUN, CIDA SUBJECT: CANADA: RESPONSE TO DEMARCHE ON UNRWA EMERGENCY APPEAL REF: STATE 065023 1. Poloff delivered reftel demarche concerning an appeal for countries to make contributions to the 2005 Emergency Appeal for UNRWA to Sam Hanson, Deputy Coordinator, Middle East Peace Process Division at Foreign Affairs Canada, on April 12. Hanson stated that the Government of Canada had just completed its end-of-fiscal-year (March 31) review of unallocated funds, and CDN one million dollars (USD 820,000) was authorized for UNRWA's Emergency Appeal for 2005. According to information provided by Hanson from the Canadian International Development Agency, the Canadian pledge is unearmarked, and is intended for general funding in the following sectors: coordination of support services, economic recovery and infrastructure, food and health.
