UNCLAS MAPUTO 000476 SIPDIS STATE FOR AF/S - TREGER E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: KDEM, PREL, MZ, Democracy SUBJECT: MOZAMBIQUE - PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY OF DEMOCRACIES MINISTERIAL REF: STATE 66787 1. On April 15, Econ/Poloff delivered reftel demarche to Faruk Faquira, Head of UN Affairs in the Department of International Organizations at Mozambican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Faquira stated that Minister of Foreign Affairs Alcinda Abreu would not be attending the April 28-30 Community of Democracies (CD) Ministerial meeting. According to Faquira, Mozambique would likely be represented at the meeting by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Henrique Banze. Faquira will be part of the Mozambican delegation to the CD Meeting. 2. The GRM delegation intends to share its experience in addressing poverty alleviation as a democracy. The GRM's highest domestic priority at present is implementing its Absolute Poverty Reduction and Alleviation Action Plan (PARPA). 3. Faquira noted that the GRM delegation may be interested in pursuing bilateral meetings with the U.S. delegation in Santiago. Any new information on this potential request will be reported septel.
