UNCLAS MANAMA 000429 SIPDIS SENSITIVE E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: EAID, ECON, EINV, PREL, BA, TAGS: EFIN SUBJECT: BAHRAIN: WOLFOWITZ NOMINATION FOR WORLD BANK REF: STATE 49831 (SBU) Emboffs March 19 delivered reftel demarche concerning the nomination of Deputy Secretary of Defense Wolfowitz as World Bank president to Ministry of Industry and Commerce Assistant Undersecretary of Foreign Trade Shaikh Daij Al Khalifa; Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director of Bilateral Relations Dr. Dhafer Al Umran; and Ministry of Finance Director of Economic Planning Yousif Humood. Al Umran told PolEcon chief that he would pass the information to the international organization affairs office for consideration, but stated that Bahrain tried to support the United States whenever it could. He said he would get back to us with a more formal response. Shaikh Daij and Humood were aware of the nomination but offered no substantive response. MONROE
