UNCLAS SANTO DOMINGO 001558 SIPDIS SENSITIVE STATE FOR WHA/CAR, NP/CBM E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREL, MNUC, KSCA, ETTC, TSPA, DR SUBJECT: HCOC - ENCOURAGING ADDITIONAL COUNTRIES TO SUBSCRIBE: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC REF: STATE 31427 1. (SBU) Embassy officers delivered paras 4-7 reftel as a non-paper, as well as a Department-provided Spanish translation of the HCOC text, to MFA UN/OAS division director Michelle Cohen on March 15. 2. (SBU) She informed us that the Dominican Republic was considering subscribing to the Hague Code of Conduct Against Ballistic Missile Proliferation. The MFA had requested an opinion from the Secretariat of State of the Armed Forces and was awaiting a response. Cohen anticipated that, once the opinion had been received, the Dominican Republic would submit its Note Verbale. We pointed out the desirability of subscribing before the June 2-3 Fourth Regular Meeting in Vienna, and she undertook to inform us when the Dominican Government had made its decision. HERTELL
