Post has consulted local NGOs, women's organizations and relevant GOP ministries regarding request for information on child marriage (reftel). None view child marriage as a problem in Peru. 2. The legal age for marriage in Peru is 18. Peruvians under 18 and over 16 can marry, but only with a judge's consent. The judge can set aside the prohibition against marriage of minors if each minor has the consent of one of her/his parents. If parents are not available to give consent, grandparents are consulted. Persons under 16 cannot legally marry. STRUBLE
