US embassy cable - 05KUWAIT1054

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. (C) During a March 14 meeting, Ambassador raised reftel
points with Shaykh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, President of

of the Iraqi Transitional Government should occur free of
interference from Iran. Shaykh Sabah Al-Khaled said the GOK
had reports of substantial Iranian interference in Iraq prior
to the elections, specifically efforts to have Sistani
supporters listed on the ballots. He had, however, no recent
information on interference, but stated Iran maintains an
interest in Iraq's General Assembly and constitution.
