US embassy cable - 05PRAGUE163

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. (S) In response to demarche in Reftel A, presented to the
MFA on January 20, the Czech government assembled
representatives from the MFA, the Office for Nuclear Security
(SUJB), the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the
intelligence branch (BIS). None of the representatives could
find any evidence to support the suspicions contained in the
demarche that Iran's nuclear program was trying to acquire
many metric tons of yellowcake from the Czech firm
Geoidustria. The SUJB representative, Vaclav Bartak, even
went further and excluded the possibility of such a
transaction. He stressed that the nation's entire store of
uranium is kept under extremely strict control. BIS also
expressed the opinion that it would be hard for such a
transaction to take place without them hearing anything about
it.
