UNCLAS DHAKA 000361 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PTER, PHUM, PGOV, BG, BG Terrorism, BGD Elections SUBJECT: LIST OF UNSOLVED BOMBINGS 1. According to local press reports, there have been 18 unsolved bombings in Bangladesh since 1999 (when the Awami League ruled) that have killed 140 persons and injured thousands more. Seven of those incidents were in Sylhet district, where former AL finance minister Kibria was killed on January 27. Seven of the incidents involved the Awami League, and ten involved minority religious places, cinema halls, or cultural sites viewed by extremists as un-Islamic. Six of the incidents occurred in 2004. 2.
