UNCLAS MAPUTO 000125 SIPDIS DEPT FOR S/ES-CR - BHORTON; AF/S - HTREGER E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREL, OPDC, PGOV, MZ, Elections 04, Guebuza SUBJECT: MOZAMBIQUE: INVITATION TO PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION Post received a signed letter dated January 21, 2005 from Mozambique President Chissano inviting President Bush to the February 2 inauguration of President-elect Armando Emilio Guebuza. The text of the letter is repeated below. The original has been sent via pouch to S/ES-CR for Brenda Horton for delivery to the White House. Begin text: Dear Mr. President, I have the honour to convey to Your Excellency that Mozambique held its third Multiparty General Elections on the 1st and 2nd of December, 2004. These elections, which were declared free and fair by the Mozambican people and the International Community, were yet another outstanding chapter in the consolidation of peace and democracy in Mozambique. The swearing in of the new President, His Excellency Armando Emilio Guebuza, will be held on the 2 of February 2005 in Maputo at 10 a.m. In this context it gives me a great pleasure and honour to extend an invitation to your Excellency to take part in this auspicious event. We would feel greatly honoured if you could bless us with your presence. We are confident that your participation would contribute to the further strengthening of relations of friendship and cooperation that so happily exist between our two peoples and countries.
