(SBU) Summary: Israeli troops shot and killed three Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, including one 12-year-old boy on January 21. The IDF also shot and injured three other Palestinians in the Gaza strip January 21. End Summary. ---- Gaza ---- (SBU) ATTACKS: -- Death: Israeli media reported that IDF troops shot and killed a 12-year old Palestinian boy on January 20 in Rafah. -- Deaths: The IDF reported that a soldier shot and killed two Palestinians west of Khan Yunis on January 21. -- Injuries: Israeli media reported that IDF troops shot and wounded two Palestinians January 21 as they were preparing to fire an anti-tank missile at Israeli troops. -- Injury: The IDF reported that it shot and injured one Palestinian near Rafah on January 20. -- Mortars/Rockets: Nil. -- Shootings: According to the IDF, Palestinians shot at Israeli soldiers east of Shalev and at Karni crossing on January 20, but no injuries occurred. -- Explosions: Nil. (SBU) BORDER CROSSINGS: -- Route Four (Salahadeen Road), the main north-south traffic artery, was open January 21 with a major detour at Netzarim Junction, but was closed at Abu Khouli from 1700 January 20 until 0900 January 21. -- Erez Crossing was open for diplomats and internationals, but closed for Palestinians on January 21. -- The Erez Industrial Zone remained closed January 21. -- Sufa Crossing was closed January 21. -- Karni Terminal was closed January 21. -- Rafah Terminal was open for arrivals January 21. -- Tel al-Sultan checkpoint was closed January 21. Toufah checkpoint was also closed on January 21. (SBU) POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS: Israeli and Palestinian media are reporting the deployment of Palestinian police to patrol conflict areas in and along the borders of the Gaza strip.
