US embassy cable - 02ABUJA652

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

1. (U) Due to President Obasanjo's heavy schedule
prior to his February 26 early morning departure
(0530) for the Commonwealth Meeting in Australia,
Ambassador Jeter was unable to personally deliver
President Bush's letter announcing EOD assistance
with the clean-up in the aftermath of the Ikeja
cantonment explosion.

2. (U) The Ambassador did, however, deliver the letter
to Chief of Protocol Coker who promised to give it to
Obasanjo at the earliest possible moment. Later that
evening, the Ambassador received a phone call from
President Obasanjo's Political Advisor stating that
the President had seen the letter and wished to
express his deep gratitude for American support.
