US embassy cable - 04ABUDHABI4765

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

REF: A. STATE 2679
     B. ABU DHABI 4624

(U) Classified by CDA Richard Albright for reasons 1.4(b),
(d), and (h).

1. (S/NF) MFA U/S Abdullah Rashed al-Noaimi expressed his
appreciation to Charge December 27 for the close and
effective coordination to block ref A shipment of missile
related equipment to Iran. Abdullah Rashed confirmed that
the German Embassy had submitted a diplomatic note formally
requesting return of the shipment to Germany. He added that
the Germans and Dubai State Security were in direct
coordination to bring this about, but did not know the
modalities.

2. (S/NF) The UAEG, upon determining that the equipment in
the container had originated in Germany, contacted the
Germans directly and urged them to request return of the
shipment. We do not know whether SSO informed the Germans
that the orginal tip off had come from us. This mission has
had no contact with the German Embassy on this matter.
