S E C R E T KUWAIT 003979 SIPDIS FOR NEA/ARPI AND T E.O. 12958: DECL: 11/20/2014 TAGS: PREL, PGOV, KU, KLEG SUBJECT: KUWAIT: STATUS OF ARTICLE 98 APPROVAL REF: KUWAIT 3592 Classified By: Ambassador Richard LeBaron for reasons 1.4 (b) and (d) 1. (S) The Ambassador raised status of Article 98 approval with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Shaykh Dr. Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah on November 21. Dr. Mohammed restated the GOK had "fast-tracked" the agreement with Parliament, explaining it was currently under review by the Foreign Affairs Committee which would then it to the floor so that a full vote could be scheduled. He was confident Parliament will approve the measure. 2. (C) The Ambassador will meet with Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Mohammed Al-Saqer to further discuss the matter. LeBaron
