UNCLAS DUBLIN 001605 SIPDIS S/WCI AND L/UNA E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: KJUS, KAWC, PHUM, UNGA SUBJECT: IRISH TO SUPPORT MERON IN ICTY ELECTION REF: SECSTATE 218465 Emboff, drawing on reftel points, spoke on October 19 to Maurice Biggar, Deputy Director for International Terrorism & Illicit Drugs and his colleague, Eoin Duggan at the DFA. According to Duggan, Ireland has formalized its decision, supporting Meron's nomination for reelection as a permanent judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). To date, Ireland has been canvassed by only 14 candidates for the 14 positions. KENNY
