Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

UNCLAS ABU DHABI 003741 SIPDIS SENSITIVE STATE FOR EB AS WAYNE AND DAS DONNELY STATE FOR NEA, NEA/ARP, NEA/PI STATE PASS USTR FOR CATHY NOVELLI USDOC FOR BIS/NWEANT E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: KBCT, KMPI, ECON, ETRD, TC SUBJECT: TIFA UPDATE: UAE MOVING ON ARAB LEAGUE BOYCOTT REF: (A) ABU DHABI 3324 (B) ABU DHABI 3205 1. (SBU) On October 20, EconChief called MinEcon Assistant Undersecretary for International Cooperation Abdulla Al-Saleh to discuss steps the UAEG has taken to resolve our Arab League boycott concerns. Al-Salah said that the Ministry of Economy and Commerce had instructed government agencies and parastatal companies (including Etisalat and ADNOC) to implement the UAEG's decision renouncing the secondary and tertiary aspects of the Arab League boycott. He explained that the instructions also defined the different aspects of the boycott. Al-Saleh also encouraged EconChief to refer any American company to him that faced boycott requests. 2. (SBU) Comment: The UAEG is acting on its political commitments that the UAE will not/not implement the secondary and tertiary aspects of the boycott. Post will continue to pursue this issue with the UAEG and with U.S. businesses to ensure that they follow through with their actions. End Comment. ALBRIGHT
