Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

C O N F I D E N T I A L THE HAGUE 002519 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 10/04/2014 TAGS: PHUM, SU, UNGA/C-3 SUBJECT: NETHERLANDS/EU/UN: POSSIBLE EU RESOLUTION ON SUDAN IN THIRD COMMITTEE REF: STATE 210930 Classified By: POL Counselor Andrew Schofer for Reasons 1.4 (b/d) (C) Poloff met October 1 with Wouter Plomp and Guillaume Teerling of the Dutch MFA's Human Rights Division and Stella Kloth of the MFA's Africa Division, to discuss reftel message. Plomp apologized that he could not share much information before the internal EU COHOM working party meeting to be held on October 5 in Brussels, but said that he would be prepared to discuss the issue in more detail at the scheduled U.S.-EU COHOM Troika consultations October 15. Plomp confirmed that the EU is "considering" a resolution on Sudan but said that "nothing would be done" before consulting with the U.S. Plomp said he "completely agreed" that any resolution in the Third Committee should not undermine existing UNSC resolutions. Plomp also confirmed that the EU plans to table initiatives on Burma and Turkmenistan. Plomp noted that any resolution on Burma should reflect ongoing political developments. Poloff later passed reftel suggested language to Human Rights Officer Eric Litver, who promised to circulate it at the October 5 COHOM working party meeting. SOBEL
