Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

UNCLAS COLOMBO 001235 SIPDIS SENSITIVE OFFICIAL INFORMAL FOR SA/INS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: AMGT, CE, MV, Religious Freedom SUBJECT: OFFICIAL INFORMAL NUMBER 098 (07/26/04) SENSITIVE BUT UNCLASSIFIED - PROTECT ACCORDINGLY. Contents: DEVELOPMENTS ON ANTI-CONVERSION BILL(S) DEVELOPMENTS ON ANTI-CONVERSION BILL(S) --------------------------------------- 1. (SBU) FYI. A Buddhist monk MP presented a draft anti- conversion bill to Parliament on July 21 as a private member's bill. The Buddhist Affairs Ministry is pursuing its own version of an anti-conversion bill. In a July 26 conversation with poloff, the Legal Draftsperson discussed the legislative process for both bills. It seems that it will be quite a while before either bill comes to Parliament for a vote. We will report front-channel tomorrow on the process of the bills, and opposition to them. (POL) LUNSTEAD
