US embassy cable - 04COLOMBO1192

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

Cutter Gun
----------

1. (SBU) From the emails we received today it seems that you
all have done a brilliant job in resolving this issue. Our
great appreciation to everyone involved.

2. (U) State 150698 on this topic states that OFM has sent
a diplomatic note with the relevant information "to Foreign
Embassies in Washington." This lest us wondering whether
the note had been sent to the Maldivian Mission in New York
since the Maldives does not have a mission in DC. The cable
listed Scott Kwak in PM as a point of contact. Andrea
Tomaszewicz contacted him a week ago, he did not know and
promised to find out. Andrea is now on leave and we still
don't know if the Maldives has been officially informed. We
want to follow up with the GORM from this end, and
Ambassador may also have chance to raise it when he is in
Maldives next week for their National Day. Can you please
try to find out for us?

3. (U) Is the deafening silence on this one good news?
