US embassy cable - 04ABUDHABI2325

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

SUBJECT: UAE SUPPORTS ICJ RULING ON SECURITY BARRIER

REF: State 150763

1. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for
Foreign Affairs, Shaykh Hamdan bin Zayed (HbZ),
reacted to the International Court of Justice (ICJ)
advisory opinion on the Israeli security barrier
(reftel) by urging the international community to live
up to its responsibilities, and by calling for a
mechanism to implement the ruling. According to the
Emirates News Agency statement carried in the local
press on July 12, HbZ said that the ICJ ruling
reflects the view of the world, and he commended the
court for urging Israel to "dismantle the wall of
racism, which the Israelis were building with the aim
of seizing more Palestinian lands." He urged the
Quartet to regard the ICJ ruling as an integral part
of the roadmap. "The construction of this wall will
destroy the chances of peace in the region," he said.
Post had shared reftel points with Shaykha Nejla Al
Qasimi, special assistant to MFA Under Secretary
Abdullah Rashid Al Nuaimi, on July 10.

2. In a July 11 meeting with visiting Palestinian
Public Works and Housing Minister, Dr. Abdul Rahman
Hamad, HbZ said that the UAE would continue to provide
development and housing aid to the Palestinian people.
The Palestinian minister commended HbZ's support for
the Palestinian people.
