Jeroen Sas is the working level Dutch official charged with 
day-to-day coordination, formulation, and articulation of 
trade policy.  He represents the Netherlands in the 
preeminent EU trade policy formulation committee and thus 
has influence with the European Commission and other EU 
member states.  In this capacity he plays a critical role in 
determining EU policy in the Doha Round of multilateral 
trade negotiations, resolution of U.S.-EU trade disputes, 
and other issues important to U.S. economic policy.  Within 
the Economic Ministry, Jeroen's views are respected, and he 
plays the important role of framing trade policy decisions 
for action by senior officials.  Yet, Jeroen has never 
traveled to the United States.  His participation in an IV 
program would give him a richer, more indepth, and 
sympathetic view of the United States than he would get from 
reading the press and official statements.  His nomination 
would support our MPP strategic goal of increasing economic 
prosperity and security through increased trade and 
investment.

Mr. de Lange (34) is a businessman, president of the Dutch 
organization of young entrepreneurs (Jong Management) and 
president of the Europe-wide organization of young 
entrepeneurs.  He also sits on the board of the Dutch 
employers association.  An articulate, emerging leader, de 
Lange is involved in national and regional efforts to 
stimulate economic growth through entrepreneurship.  His 
organization lobbies the Dutch government and EU commission 
to create an environment more conducive to entrepreneurs and 
business, and thus can act as a strong force to enhance the 
kinds of policies favored by US businesses.  De Lange has 
not had significant US experience, and would benefit from a 
group or individual program focussing on economic growth, 
entrepreneurship, trade and business-government relations in 
the U.S.
