Ms. Hassan is the key official of the Maldives Monetary 
Authority (MMA) who has been attached to MMA for over 20 
years.  Sh report directly to the Vice-Governor who is the 
Minister of State for Treasury and the Governor who is the 
President of Maldives.  Ms. Hassan supervises all 
departments of the MMA (general division, money 
market/banking operations division, and economic research 
division).  She has had limited exposure to capital markets 
and international financial systems.  As there is a great 
need for financial market development and liberalization in 
the Maldives, the MRP on "U.S. Financial Systems" would be 
ideal for program for her to get the necessary exposure in 
this area.  Since Ms. Hassan is a key official in monetary 
affairs in the Maldives her participation in this program 
would strengthen her contacts with this mission.
