US embassy cable - 04ANKARA2292

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

(C) MFA Department Head for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation
Affairs Bulent Meric told deputy pol-mil counselor April 21
that Turkey fully supported the draft UNSCR on
non-proliferation (reftel). Meric said the MFA recently
instructed the TU mission to the UN to "take its cue from the
EU," and support the resolution. Meric said it was important
for non-Council and Council members to exchanges views on the
draft resolution, and said he expected Turkish officials
would attend the April 22 Open Council Meeting. Meric agreed
it would be useful for Turkey to voice its support for the
resolution during the Open Council Meeting, and offered to
relay the request to his superiors within the MFA.
