Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

UNCLAS THE HAGUE 000973 SIPDIS STATE FOR OBS (LELAND), G/TIP, G, INL, DRL, PRM, EUR/PGI, EUR/UBI, EUR/PPD SENSITIVE E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: KPAO, OPRC, OIIP, KCRM, PHUM, KWMN, SMIG, NL SUBJECT: TIP: SHOWING OF LILYA 4-EVER IN THE HAGUE REF: 03 SECSTATE 14545 The Global Affairs Section of the US Embassy The Hague invited TIP contacts to a lunchtime showing of the feature film LILYA 4-EVER on April 14, 2004, in the Embassy auditorium. A group of 15 including representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, two NGOs and various embassy sections watched the film. Afterwards, the guests commented that they were impressed with the realism of the story based on their professional experience with TIP. The NGO representatives felt it portrayed well the hidden nature of the crime and the difficulties in reaching out to victims. They said that, like Lilya, victims are often persons who are already inclined to be societal outsiders. Telling them to become insiders doesn't protect them from traffickers. The officials from the Ministry of Justice and Foreign Affairs agreed that watching the film was a good reminder of why we all work together to stop TIP. The Global Section has also offered the video for personal use loan to TIP contacts. Thank you for providing this film. Sobel
