US embassy cable - 04KUWAIT1219

Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

Adel Al-Qassar wrote in independent Al-Watan (4/11): "The reason beh
escalation in Iraq is the clash of wills between the people and the o
freedom, and what democracy is the United States promising with this
violence and random shelling, to the extent that mosques have become
targets for heavy artillery and cluster bombs. Mature democracy does

Former Islamist MP Abdel Muhsin Jamal wrote in independent Al-Qabas (
American law allow the bombing of mosques? Would Bush dare bomb a syn
Israel? Then, how come he dares bomb mosques in Iraq? Do the principl
American Founding Fathers allow for a country that owns the most powe

and the conduct of the present occupying forces. American run prison
Iraqis, innocent civilians are buried in mass graves, clerics and cad
and Iraqi resources are plundered in broad daylight. America is weav
and horrific plot, culminating in the bombing and shelling of innocen
cities. Washington's Plan, by detaining Shia clerics, is to ignite a
the purpose of weakening the role of religious clerics. By imposing
military power, Iraq, eventually will be plunged under a veil of a ne
dictatorship."

However, the American military leadership committed a few mistakes up
Baghdad; the American military and their allies, should have stayed a
of the city observing from afar without having to clash with Iraqi re
militia. The American military also made the mistake of disbanding t
army, and of not collecting weapons. Today we see the consequences o
mistakes. Americans in particular do not know how to deal with Iraqi
policy toward Iraq is a shambles."

6. "Iraq One Year after"
Dr. Shamlan Al-Issa wrote in independent Al-Seyassah (4/10): "Despit
presence of coalition forces in Iraq, security and stability have not
established. A wave of violence and terrorism has been steadily gain
one year since the overthrow of the former regime. As long as weapon
and Mujahedeens are infiltrating from neighboring countries, and as l
Governing Council and various political entities in Iraq are at logge
managing Iraq's affairs, then violence and terrorism will continue.
is not in the presence of foreign troops, but in the fact that every
nationalist or political group believe they have they right to govern
taking into account the primary interest of the Iraqi people."

"
Khaled Al-Enezi wrote in independent Al-Seyassah (4/10): "Israel is
beneficiary of 9/11 events. It was Israel who planned, deceived and
world that Arabs were the culprits. Not only is an Israel committing

Salah Al-Fadhli wrote in independent Al-Rai Al-A'am (4/11): "One Yea

Senator Ted Kennedy was right to describe Iraq as George Bush's Vietn
America is not ready to pay a heavy price for its presence in Iraq, n
to retreat, as that would be considered a loud victory for what it al
terrorism and religious radicalism. It also seems that the coalition
lost leave of their senses, and are using tanks, heavy artillery and
aircraft against anyone opposing their presence. These actions serve
last bridges of hope with the Iraqi people, who, have begun to compar
with the way Saddam used to deal with them."

9. "America Plans for Iraq Fail"
Islamist Dr. Waleed Al-Tabtabai wrote in independent Al-Watan (4/11):
beyond doubt, one year after the fall of the former Iraqi regime, Ira
had nothing to do with the former regime's possession of WMD, nor had
with the events of 9/11. The occupation is linked to America's plan
its hegemony all over the world starting with the Middle East, throug
Israel, of course, will be America's main partner in using Iraq as a
therefore, any resistance in Iraq must be crushed. Despite this, Ame
Iraq is beginning to fail. The American Giant has gone mad and fooli

10. "The Model"
Rashed Al-Raddan wrote in independent Al-Watan (4/11): "One month af
liberation of Iraq, America's president announced that Iraq would be
democracy and freedom. Recently, I recalled Bush's statements while
regrettable events taking place in Iraq. The situation in Iraq is ex
difficult, and the Governing Council, will eventually have no choice
itself. We were hoping that the American Administration would have a
understanding of the nature of the Iraqi people and deal with its var
tribal and sectarian groups accordingly. Presently, Americans are li
moments, because it did not win the Iraqi people's affection, nor did

Saleh al-Shayji wrote in independent Al-Anba (4/11): ""Fallujah is A
grave," shouted a crazy mob while dragging mutilated bodies recently.
that these peoples' knowledge of America is limited, or Saddam may ha
them by saying America was "Micky Mouse." However, Saddam never infor
America's revenge. Haven't they heard of Pearl Harbor, and how Ameri

Japanese cities that paid a heavy price? America's revenge is actual.
