Disclaimer: This site has been first put up 15 years ago. Since then I would probably do a couple things differently, but because I've noticed this site had been linked from news outlets, PhD theses and peer rewieved papers and because I really hate the concept of "digital dark age" I've decided to put it back up. There's no chance it can produce any harm now.

C O N F I D E N T I A L THE HAGUE 000905 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 04/06/2024 TAGS: PREL, PGOV, CY, NL, EUN SUBJECT: CYPRUS: DUTCH RESPONSE ON DONORS' CONFERENCE REF: STATE 76346 Classified By: CLASSSIFIED BY POLITICAL COUNSELOR MARY DALY FOR REASONS 1.5 (B AND D) (C) PolMilOff discussed reftel points with Dutch MFA Cyprus Desk Officer Christianne Schneiders on April 7. The GONL fully shares U.S. views concerning the settlement plan and the importance of the upcoming donors' conference. Schneiders said MFA was trying to coordinate a telephone call that same day from PM Balkenende to President Papadopoulos to "put pressure" on him to support the plan. Concerning the conference, FM Bot and State Secretary for European Affairs Nicolai will be unable to attend owing to obligations to appear in parliament, so the Dutch will be represented by their PermRep to the EU and the MFA Director General for European Cooperation, Marnix Krop. Schneiders noted that the Netherlands has provided support in the past to UN SRSG De Soto's efforts and that it would make a contribution at the April 15 conference, though that amount is yet to be determined.
